Event Scan

The Challenge

Event Connections runs trade shows and exhibitions. Exhibitors want leads; organisers want access control. Both need to happen fast—nobody wants to queue at a conference.

They had an API ready and needed an app that could do two things: let exhibitors scan attendee badges to capture leads, and let door staff verify entry to restricted sessions.

Our Approach

React Native let us ship one app for iOS and Android. Event staff don't all use iPhones, and building two native apps would have doubled the timeline.

The app runs in two modes. Exhibitor Mode is all about speed—scan a badge, capture the contact, add a quick note, move to the next conversation. When you're working a busy stand, every second counts. Leads sync to the server in the background so nothing's lost even if connectivity is patchy.

Door Entry Mode handles access control. Scan a badge, check authorisation, green light or red light. The response has to be instant—you can't have queues building up outside a keynote while the app thinks about it.

The authorisation flow was bespoke. Event Connections had specific requirements around how staff log in and which events they can access. We built it to their spec rather than forcing them into a generic pattern.

The Results

The app runs at their events, handling thousands of scans per day. Exhibitors get their leads instantly. Security works smoothly. The event runs better because the technology stays invisible.
